Hand Controller cable

Hello WarpAstron Support,
I read somewhere that not all USB C cables will work with the mount. In particular I am wanting a long cable, maybe 10 feet (3 meters). I tried buying one at a local shop but it will not work for the Hand Controller. Is the short cable that comes with the wd-20 mount special? Do I have to contact my dealer where I bought my mount to get a long cable that will work to connect the Mount to the Hand Controller? If any other wd-20 user has gotten a third party cable to work I’d like to know.

USB C 3.1/3.2 Gen2 cables!

Hey Patrick, I noticed when looking at specs on Amazon some vendors for USB C Gen 2 3.2 list their cables as either data, Video, Thunderbolt or all three, both or just one of those words. Well maybe charging too. This is somewhat confusing, WarpAstron only uses the word “Data” for obvious reasons, but with technology changing so fast I have not researched the topics to know if one fits all. Likely a cable advertised as USB C, 3.2 Gen 2, is the only spec I need to be concerned with but I found myself looking for cables advertised as “only” USB C, 3.2, Gen 2, DATA cable and ignoring the rest just in case a Video cable is entirely different than a data cable? Any pointers on these various specs I should be concerned with that you know of?

Hey! I think that all of the features you mention are standard advertising features. USB C to USB C 3.2, Gen 2 Data should work. I asked Warpastron about the specs a while back about the data cable and they told me USB A to USB C 3.2, Gen 2, so I bought one and it works fine for the data connection to the PC. I suspect that the Hand Controller cable is the same spec, although I haven’t tested it on my HC. Note that the cable to the PC is USB A to USB C, and to the HC is USB C to USB C. I have found that using the WD-20 Bluetooth feature and NINA I don’t need the hand controller or the PC cable at all, although I leave them both connected. Let me know how you work it out! Cheers!

Hi Patrick, many thanks again for your reply. I looked at two shops today but was unable to find a cable that stated the 3.2 spec, there has to be one somewhere locally but I could more easily get one online. I should look at the bluetooth option but I’m not sure how to impliment that however I have a mini PC mounted to the scope so just a few inches away from the mount and then a 1 foot usb C to A cable that connects them together, though I am unsure if that is a 3.2 spec or not, but it works! Lastly I have a HDMI cable connected from the PC to a monitor/kybd/mouse a few feet away on a small table where I sit to use NINA and a planetarium program to select and image targets. The HC with it’s short c to c cable won’t reach to the table, which I’d like to fix in case I need that interface for some reason. I’ve only had one chance to use the mount which was last night since getting it at Xmas, a long time with no sky. So as long as the software (NINA) works I would not need the HC, but I’d like to have it on my table just in case, but I need a long cable to do so. Robert

I use this one.

Thanks JMD, yes I think the Gen 2, 3.2 spec is what is required, so I did order one with the same spec as your link showed, many thanks for the help. Should have it in just a few days, for now I’ll manage with the shorty version Warp included in the set.
